Nocturnal: Bats from the Cowan Tetrapod Collection

Spooky creatures of the night are on the prowl and the Beaty Biodiversity Museum is the place to see a whole bunch of them. Come learn about the coolest night critter – the only mammals that can truly fly, the second most specious group of mammals – the Chiroptera more commonly known as bats.
Join Chris Stinson the Curatorial Assistant of Mammals as he brings out all the species of bat the Beaty has to offer. See all the bats found in southwestern BC and some weird ones from around the world. Everything from tiny yellow bats to giant flying foxes and even British Columbia’s largest, the Hoary Bat. These specimens are not normally on public display so it will be a real treat to see them and hear about the natural history and diversity of these nocturnal mammals.
There will be a short talk about the general biology, amazing abilities, and conservation of these fascinating creatures of our nighttime world.
The South Coast Bat Conservation Society will also be on site to answer any bat questions and to provide a presentation on hibernation and White-nosed Syndrome.
The museum will be open until 8:30pm, with admission by donation after 5:00pm. Drop in any time. All ages welcome!
