The Non-Academic Job Search for Graduate Students and Postdocs

In this three-part session, Dr. Anne Krook will first review her own path through and out of academics and describe the lessons postdoctoral fellows and graduate students can draw from it. She will then show how graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can prepare themselves for the non-academic job market at the same time that they do their postdoctoral studies or graduate work and what they must do. Finally, she will review the process and mechanics of entering the non-academic job market. A template exercise helps postdocs and grad students learn to identify and define their skillsets, and the blank template and a filled-out example will be provided to the students and postdoctoral fellows after the session.
